Appointment of new Editor-in-Chief

Lynn R. Fraser, Chairman, ESHRE and Professor D.H. Barlow

Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Oxford, The Women's Centre, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford OX3 9DU, UK

ESHRE has great pleasure in announcing the appointment of Professor David Barlow as the new Editor-in-Chief of Human Reproduction.

David Barlow is Nuffield Professor and Head of the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Oxford and is an honorary Consultant at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospital where he is Director of the Reproductive Medicine Programme. He has been involved in research in reproductive endocrinology and infertility since the late 1970s and currently serves as a Member of the UK Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA). His MD (1977–1980, Glasgow), was in post-reproductive endocrinology which evolved into an interest in the menopause and postmenopausal women's health and he is currently Chairman of the British Menopause Society. Finally, he has established, over the past fifteen years in Oxford, a broad-based research programme in endometriosis spanning basic molecular genetics and cell biology, clinical research and health services research based on a referral service in endometriosis which complements the active Oxford programmes in menopause, infertility and assisted reproduction.

He regards his appointment as Editor-in-Chief of Human Reproduction as a privilege to follow in the footsteps of Bob Edwards but also a considerable challenge if he is to maintain the high reputation of the journal established by Professor Edwards. He believes that his broad interests in reproductive medicine and science will be an asset in this new role and he recognizes, at the outset, the vital contribution of his colleagues in these services in Oxford who make it possible for him to take on this role.
