Admission to hospital of singleton children born following assisted reproductive technology (ART)

M. Hansen, L. Colvin, B. Petterson, J.J. Kurinczuk, N. de Klerk and C. Bower

Hum. Reprod. 2008;23:1297–1305

The authors wish to apologise for some errors in Table III of this paper. The top section of Table III should be replaced by the following:

The following references to these data in the text should also be changed:

On page 1301, left-hand column, paragraph 2, line 4. Replace ‘29% of ART and 20% of SC’ with ‘27% of ART and 19% of SC’. Following sentence, replace ‘equal proportions (16%)’ with ‘equal proportions (15%)’ and ‘the figures were 14% and 12%, respectively’ with ‘the figures were 13% and 12%, respectively’.

On page 1301, right-hand column, first paragraph. Delete from sentence starting ‘The proportion of children admitted more than twice...’ and replace with ‘The mean total LOS per child admitted was longer for ART than SC children in each year (significant only in the first year)’.

On Page 1302, right-hand column, second paragraph, line 3. Replace ‘In this study, 29% of ART and 20% of SC singletons’ with ‘In this study, 27% of ART and 19% of SC singletons’.

On Page 1302, right-hand column, second paragraph, line 10. Delete sentence from ‘...although in each of these periods the risk of more than two admissions and the total time spent in hospital was greater for ART children’.

On page 1303, right-hand column, last paragraph, bottom of page, line 7. Delete the sentence beginning ‘Although the higher risk of one or more hospital admissions...’.

On page 1304, right-hand column, first paragraph, line 5. Replace ‘and the ~4 days extra spent in hospital each year during the first 3 years, ...’ with ‘and the ~4 days extra spent in hospital during the first year, ...’.

These corrections do not alter our conclusion that ART singletons are more likely to be admitted to an NICU, to be hospitalized in the first year of life and on average to stay in hospital longer than other children.
