Each year, at around about this time, Thomson Scientific releases the latest, much anticipated, journal impact factors (IFs). The 2007 figures were announced a few weeks ago. The latest IF for Human Reproduction (based on the papers published in 2007 that cited papers published in 2005 and 2006) is 3.543. This is very slightly less than last year's figure of 3.769. The ranking of Human Reproduction is fourth in the subject category ‘Obstetrics and Gynecology’ (60 journals) and third in the subject category ‘Reproductive Biology’ (25 journals), meaning that once again, Human Reproduction can be truly considered as one of the top journals in the field. I would like at this point to congratulate our sister review journal Human Reproduction Update for achieving what is the highest IF ever attained by a journal in either of these two categories, with an IF of 7.257. MHR also did well with a small increase, taking it to 2.871. My sincere thanks go to all readers, authors, reviewers, associate editors and the journal's editorial team for their continuous support. We will continue all efforts to maintain and increase the quality of the journal for the years to come.

You will no doubt have noticed that the July issue of Human Reproduction has a new cover design. This co-ordinates with the new house style of ESHRE which was launched officially during the ESHRE Annual Meeting in Barcelona (6–9 July 2008). For the Journals’ covers, the editorial teams of all three ESHRE Journals and the Publisher Oxford University Press collaborated closely with the Executive Committee and the Central Office of the Society to select the cover for each of the Journals. I encourage all our readers to provide us with their comments on this style change.

As well as providing a unique opportunity to discover the latest and most interesting science, ESHRE's Annual Meeting is also a perfect venue to meet with many colleagues and peers. I hope that the editorial teams will have had the occasion to discuss with many of you on all matters related to the journals. Your input is highly valued since it provides the information needed to make Human Reproduction a journal appreciated by its readers, authors, reviewers and associate editors.
