To the Editor,

Letters-to-the-Editor,

Human Reproduction

The authors of the recent Ms on ovarian transplantation survey are to be congratulated for their important publication [1]. The authors claim that: "Despite the relatively large number of reports on ovarian tissue transplantation approaches and techniques, to date, there are no precise data on the reproductive outcomes after ovarian tissue transplantation." [1]. However, despite their "systematic search on the MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Systematic Reviews, CENTRAL, Web of Science and Scopus databases" [1], the data remain imprecise. The reason for this fact is that there is a natural tendency of most investigators to publish successes [i.e. positive results] and to not publish cases where transplantation did not generate the desired conception. During the recent ESHRE campus on fertility preservation, held at Heidelberg on November 14th and 15th, personal communication and discussion revealed that at least ten unreported ovarian transplantations have been carried out in South-Africa, Germany, and in Israel. Thus, it may be possible that additional unreported cases without generated conceptions were performed in additional centers. Until a worldwide questionnaire will be sent to all the IVF centers and an accurate survey is performed the true success rate of this promising and powerful procedure remains obscure.
