About the Cover
Cover design The problems of conventional methods of karyotyping blastomeres become acute under limited timescales during preimplantation genetic diagnosis. The front cover of Human Reproduction shows the karyotype of a blastomere of a normal embryo obtained from a woman carrying 46,XX,t(9;11)(p24;q12) translocation. The upper picture shows the results of FISH analyis with painting probes for chromosomes 9 (green) and 11 (orange) with a centromeric probe for chromosome 9 (blue) and telomeric probe for 11q (yellow). These results were obtained using a new rapid method in which human blastomeres are fused with bovine in-vitro matured oocytes and cytoplasmic factors used to force the human nucleii into metaphase. For further details, see pp. 470-475.
