About the Cover
Cover design The front cover of Human Reproduction shows cryostat sections of human spontaneous abortion decidua double-labelled for CD3 (T cell marker; yellow-brown) and CD69 (early activation marker; blue). Single labelled T cells (CD3-positive; yellow-brown) are marked with arrows, and activated double-labelled cells (CD3 and CD69-positive) are marked with arrowheads. In serial sections, a small population T cells was also shown to be double labelled with a second early activation marker, CD25. The numbers of activated (CD69 and CD25-positive) cells were significantly increased in spontaneous abortion decidua compared with those from therapeutic abortion. Immunological dysfunction within endometrium may account for a proportion of sporadic spontaneous abortions. For further details, see pp. 1194-1200.
