Cover design The front cover of Human Reproduction shows two methods of identifying fetal cells in maternal blood: By morphology using the Kleihauer-Betke method and counterstaining with methylene blue (left) and by immunocytochemistry using a fluorescent antibody against g-globin (right). The median % of fetal erythroblasts in maternal blood of growth restricted pregnancies (n=10) was significantly higher than that of the control group (n=10). This increase may be due either to escape across a damaged placenta from impaired placental perfusion or an increased proportion of fetal erythroblasts in fetal blood of growth restricted pregnancies. For further details, see pp. 218-221.
