The front cover illustrates a reliable immunocytogenetic technique to identify the synaptonemal complex (SC) in various stages of prophase. Antibodies to meiotic proteins identified the SC (SYN1/SCP3 red), the centromere (CREST blue) and recombination sites (MLH1 yellow). The method was able to identify dramatic pachytene-stage abnormalities in an infertile man. For details please see see Sun et al., pp. 1770–1773.
